GELC

GELC is a 501(c)(3) organization founded by former Outten & Golden litigator Allegra Fishel, with the mission to advance laws and policies that promote gender equality in all spheres of public and private life. Since opening its doors in 2015, GELC has sprung into action on a huge variety of fronts, including litigation and legislative reform as well as training and education. They have led training sessions for Make the Road, the Legal Services coalition, and private civil rights lawyers. They also engage in strategic litigation, and have obtained significant victories in pregnancy discrimination and accommodation and sexual harassment cases. GELC maintains a focus on issues facing low-income women, women of color, and LGBTQ & gender non-conforming women. GELC played an integral role in passing and/or implementing NYC’s Anti-Caregiver Discrimination Amendment, NYC Pregnant Workers Fairness Act, NY Paid Family Leave, and the NY Women’s Equality Act.
