Susan Crumiller to Discuss New Protections for Pregnant Workers at NYCLA CLE Webinar

Our founding attorney Susan Crumiller will deliver a virtual CLE presentation on January 19, 2023, titled, “Pregnancy & Caregiver Rights In the Workplace,” hosted by the New York County Lawyers Association.
This webinar will include an overview of two new laws that provide critical protections for new and expecting moms. Both bills were recently signed into law by President Biden as part of Congress’s $1.7 trillion omnibus spending package.
The Pregnant Workers Fairness Act requires private employers with 15 or more workers to provide reasonable accommodations based on pregnancy, childbirth, or related medical conditions. The bill provides exceptions if the employer can provide that such accommodations would pose an “undue hardship” on the employer.
The PUMP For Nursing Mothers Act expands federal protections for breastfeeding workers, and clarifies employer obligations to provide private lactation spaces and breaks for nursing mothers. The bill provides a similar “undue hardship” exception for employers with fewer than 50 workers.
Susan will also provide an overview of the legal landscape in New York, including common types of caregiver-related discrimination claims and defenses.
This program will be valuable for employment law practitioners and in-house counsel in New York.
