Race disparities persist even after educational and economic factors are controlled for; statistically, the most educated and privileged Black woman will fare worse than the least resourced, least educated white woman. The CDC estimates that more than half of all maternal deaths were fully preventable. So what is happening?

Crumiller takes on medical malpractice cases, using civil rights claims, on behalf of women of color who are mistreated during labor and delivery. We have also created a pro bono educational initiative, partnering with doulas to connect with healthcare providers on behalf of patients of color, sharing key information about patient rights and the common causes of maternal mortality.
