Benoni is at the vet getting spayed. I’m a little worried.
But this morning, Benko got a mouse! I was sitting having my coffee on the couch and looked over and he was playing with what I thought was one of his play mousies, but I heard him growl and the mouse moved — ICK!! He was batting it around and playing with it! I went and cowered in the kitchen, hoping he wouldn’t come in and jump up on my lap with the half dead mouse. But then I went and took a shower and just hoped it would be dead when I got out and that he wouldn’t eat it.
When I came down the mouse was dead but intact — Benko was just laying there with his paw on the mouse’s tail as if he were keeping it from escaping. I put a bucket over the mouse and pulled his paw off and gave him a treat. Then I put a heavy box on the bucket and left to take Benoni to the vet. The bucket’s still there for now but I will have to face it soon.
When I called Jon (before the mouse died) he felt sorry for the mouse. I did a little too but I wasn’t brave enough to somehow kill it myself to end its misery.
The funny thing is Benko’s the couch potato kitty who is getting a little fat, and he can’t jump as high as Benoni and isn’t as agile.

Poor little Benoni!! It sounds like she’s fine though. Is Benko already neutered?
Maybe Benko is fat and lazy because he’s eating up the mice, and actually he’s just tired from all that work.
You were very brave Jenny.
Gramma went with me to pick up Benoni so she’d know where the vet was in case of emergency in the future when taking care of the kitties. When we got home and let Benoni out she was loopy — it was hard because she kept falling over while walking around and falling when jumping up or down from chairs or whatever. The vet had said to keep her away from Benko to keep her quiet for the rest of the day and the next day but that was too hard — and Benko didn’t seem to want to bother her (although once I caught him getting ready to pounce on her and I stopped him, he didn’t do it again within my sight). She eventually went under the couch and went to sleep.
Her surgical area was shaved and she has a big incision, about 3 inches long, but you can barely see it because it’s so thin. After a few hours she seemed totally fine though, and was running around being her usual self.
OK I’m about to go get the dead mouse - I’m doing it now. …. I did it. I put my hand in a plastic bag, lifted up the bucket to access the dead mouse, grabbed it and put it in the garbage.
On the kitty and the mouse. Is the mouse still under the pail?
What is the latest update??
