In one of my in-between-studying breaks that occurs every few minutes, I received this link from a friend on how Doctor Slang is decreasing. It’s a pretty humorous read, and is basically about how doctors will write acronyms on patients’ charts that would be pretty offensive if spelled out, but still meaningful. Here’s a few gems:
TTFO - Told To Go Away
FLK - Funny Looking Kid
LOBNH - Lights Out But Nobody Home
and my personal favorite…
pumpkin positive - “refers to the implication that a penlight shone into the patient’s mouth would encounter a brain so small that the whole head would light up.”

If you read The House Of God you would learn a lot of hospital ones, like GOMER(get out of my emergency room) The “o” sign and the “Q” sign for a few.
We have a code for the client’s records at my shop. I insisted that the word Apple be substituted for the F word, but they still have all kinds of acronyms. One is POGT (Picky Owner, Good Tipper). That would be me. Some are just PO. 33 Means always late, which must be from some cartoon figure.
That’s pretty funny
My guess is that LOBNH is probably Lights On But Nobody Home (instead of Lights Out…)
