What did everyone think? I talked to Mom last night and both she and Dad thought McCain came out on top a bit. I think it’s hard to tell–from an educated perspective I think anyone can agree that Obama is more eloquent and (I think) had better answers. But the Republicans love to glorify mediocrity (as Dad likes to call it the “six-pack Joe’s”) and McCain definitely connected better with that base. I cringed every time he would pull the honor and loyalty trick to prove that he’s a six pack Joe too. We can’t have a six-pack Joe running the country, or a soccer-mom hunter: we need a smart, top-notch politician.
So obviously Obama is having a good week. He’s up by 9 (52-43%) in the latest ABC-Washington Post poll, and is increasing his lead in the necessary battleground states. Furthermore, John McCain is taking another one of his patented huge and insane gambles by trying to get out of the first debate!
Unfortunately, Bill Clinton seems to be doing everything he can to impede the momentum! First this week he said that “Palin has energized both sides,” then he claimed he was putting off campaiginng for Obama until “after the Jewish holidays”(?!?) then, yesterday, instead of capitalizing on McCain’s wacko debate stunt, he said that McCain acted “in good faith” by trying to delay the debate!

On another note, I’ve developed several interesting theories as to why McCain pulled his stunt (the real answer is probably a combination):
1. So Palin could avoid her debate: Interestingly (and little publicized), McCain wanted the rescheduled debate to happen on the night that the VICE-presidential debate was supposed to happen. The VP debate would then be rescheduled for some unspecified other time (or never.) Palin has been bombing in recent interviews (Charlie Gibson & Katie Couric), and maybe they figure the less exposure the better.
2. So McCain could avoid HIS debate: Maybe McCain’s debate prep is going really terribly and he freaked out and tried to think of ANYTHING that could get him out of it. Like a kid who realized he’s going to flunk a test and pulls the fire alarm.
3. Continued strategy of crazy stunts: Maybe McCain saw the latest ABC-Washington Post poll, realized he was heading straight to loser-ville, and decided to change the direction of the race once again with another insane-o stunt. Since all the voters care about is the economy right now, and since Obama owns that issue, he would have to somehow inject himself into that issue. The only problem with this theory is that it doesn’t exactly explain why he would also try to delay the debate, instead of just heading back to Washington to “fix things once and for all” or whatever he is saying he will do.
In one of my in-between-studying breaks that occurs every few minutes, I received this link from a friend on how Doctor Slang is decreasing. It’s a pretty humorous read, and is basically about how doctors will write acronyms on patients’ charts that would be pretty offensive if spelled out, but still meaningful. Here’s a few gems:
TTFO - Told To Go Away
FLK - Funny Looking Kid
LOBNH - Lights Out But Nobody Home
and my personal favorite…
pumpkin positive - “refers to the implication that a penlight shone into the patient’s mouth would encounter a brain so small that the whole head would light up.”

I tried hard to stop ridiculing Sarah Palin, because I know it’s counterproductive and only revs up the Republicans even more, but this was fun. My name: Molten Contra Palin.
See what your name would be if you’d been born to Sarah Palin.
Are the blog gods disappearing the post or aren’t there any?
Princeton HS just lost their first foot ball game of the season to Nottingham, 28 to 3. I didn’t hear a lot of cheering.
????
I wrote a post on Palin’s and Guiliani’s speech that I accidentally deleted– but did anyone else watch? I couldn’t sleep after it - all they did was deride Obama and try to provoke class resentment. (Good editorial by Paul Krugman about it) It was right out of the Rove playbook and I’m sure was effective. It was scary. I’m very worried. Evvie, are you still confident it’s a landslide?
Google just launched their own web browser called Google Chrome. Man is this thing FAST. Very lightweight, awesome features, and when I installed it it automatically found all my Firefox (and presumably will find IE stuff as well) tabs, bookmarks, passwords, etc. and imported them all–and I didn’t even have to do anything!
Check out the mem usage:

iexplore.exe 57,780k
firefox.exe 64,276k
