I think I solved the problem of the spellchecker, which included some mucking around. It only works if you have “Use visual editor when writing” checked on your blog user profile. If you have been using the visual editor (with editing buttons for bold, italic etc. above the box for writing) you should now see the ABC check icon in the comments. Gramma, Maggie, Suzy and others, I made sure you have it checked, so the spellchecker now should work in both comments and main post page. I’m not exactly sure how it works but I think if you click the little ABC icon it checks the spelling and underlines suspicious words.
If you want to check your setting, go to site admin/Users/Your Profile. On the upper left is the checkbox. If you want me to do this for you I will, just let me know.
Also, it would also be great if people learned how to insert links into their posts. Aunt Julie is among those who have learned this. The key is using the visual editor, and then recognizing the link icon among the editing buttons. It’s a chain link that’s shaped a little like a sideways number 8. Once you type in what you want your link to say, like “funny article,” you then select those words and click on the link icon. Then you paste in he address and hit ok.

It’s working fine mom.
It works because I put in a fix that Mom claims will disappear at midnight. That’s in 1.5 hours…I’ll still be up and I’ll let people know.
It works fine in Internet Explorer!
Well it suddenly stopped working it looks like, but until right now it’s looked fine for me since I made the fix yesterday. Are you positive it wasn’t working before? Because it was for me.
Ahh, marshall, the am and pm aren’t working. I tried changing the offset from 1 to 13, and then again back to 1 and it never works, no matter what the am or pm stays the same.
Marshall, thanks!
Marshall fixed something that’s been bugging me for a long time - the time shown on the blog at the top of the themes I made was off by one hour, I think because the web server is in another time zone. Now it’s right for the majority of bloggers - sorry Auntie Sue and Maggie!
Most "techies" I know avoid using the mouse at all costs. It’s just easier and you don’t have to move your hand around or take it off the keyboard. It’s especially obvious in word processors. I use the home key, the shift and arrow keys to highlight (go to the end of a line and press shift-home and you’ll highlight the whole line, for example). I use the ctrl+arrows to move word by word (or ctrl-shift-arrow to highlight word by word). I use page up and page down. I use alt-tab to switch between programs instead of clicking on the bottom screen. I use windows-d or windows-m to minimize all my programs.
I just put in the code by hand.
Julie it’s because some people filled in "website" in their user profile so their names are links, which are displayed according to the css formatting -not bold, bold, a color, etc.
Marshall I was going to say something like that techie people are too cool to use visual editors. I noticed this, that they always say it’s easier to just put in the code by hand — but I haven’t memorized the < , >, /, { etc keys so it’s definitely easier to use the editor.
Look! I’m bold, too!
I wonder this: why is Marshall’s name bold, but Suzy, Susan, Grandma, and Jenny all get unbold? I don’t know how mine will look, but I wonder what is different for the bold. Maybe Marshall is just a bold kind of guy?
Ok, here’s the HTML format for leaving a link:
<a href="http://www.thisistheactuallink.com">THIS IS THE "PRETTY" TEXT</a>
You can always click the “html” button and insert that type of text. I usually do that, I think it’s easier. But otherwise, click the link button and do it the user-easy way.
You guys are too picky. Especially one of you.
But how do you make links look pretty when you’re leaving a comment?
blleunzq testing It worked. Thanks. I will have to work on the link thing,
Marsh, I should have been more clear- I mean mean "pretty" links, so they weren’t those really long links that sometimes people insert. Like CNN.
It depends on if you’re writing a new post or replying to one.
If you’re writing a new post, you need to click the "link" button.
If you’re replying, you can just type an address straight up and it’ll convert it to an html link: http://www.cnn.com
