Great Commercials by Evan on January 29, 2007 at 9:52 pm

here’s a commercial for Dr. Pepper that i really like:

http://youtube.com/watch?v=p70JILpZn-8

I feel like it’s a weird thing about me that i really appreciate good commercials. I find it so interesting how they have to be funny, or emotional, or whatever in 30 seconds, and try to sell you something while they’re at it. Not to mention that you’re automatically averse to watching the commercial, because you’d rather be watching your program. Anyway, are there any funny commercials or campaigns that you guys can think of?

Evvie the Intern by suzys on January 26, 2007 at 7:48 pm

He was handsome and authoritative as he walked toward us in the Senate office building. I had a wonderful time admiring Evan, as well as visiting (and admiring!) Julie and her family. We dined at Rosa Mexicano, which was delicious and fun. The drink of the day was a Pomegranite Margarita, which is good if you like pomegranites. As a special surprise, cousin Karen showed up at dinner. She is an educator who often travels to D.C. Mom (Darlyne) was entertaining, as usual. Sometime later we will tell about the Native American Museum.

I can definitely see the appeal of D.C. The subways seem really functional, for one thing. And it is easy to feel important if you are there.

Favorite Quotes by Jon on January 24, 2007 at 5:50 pm

From time to time I come across a quote that I really like, and I stash it away in a list on my computer. It occurred to me that others might also enjoy these quotes. So here are a few quotes that I like. If the quote is attributed to someone, I include the attribution with the quote.

*********************************
“Voting is the method by which we obtain the right to be critical of government and politicians.”

“Suppose you were an idiot … and suppose you were a member of Congress… But I repeat myself.” — Mark Twain

“Everyone seems normal until you get to know them.”

…and here is a favorite quote, showing one of the many parallels between chess and life:
“After the game, King and Pawn both go back into the same box.”

If you have any good quotes, please share them.

Movies by Susan on at 11:31 am

Children of Men was AMAZING. One of the most intense movies I’ve ever seen. Very highly recommended.

I also loved Volver, but it was more of just a fun watch than really thought-provoking.

Anyone else seen any good movies lately?

Evvie, I’m coming to see you! by suzys on January 18, 2007 at 5:18 pm

I’ll be wearing the Green Bay Packers sweatshirt and I’ll be the one waving and yelling. Later, we have reservations for dinner, but Jenny has forbidden the stripper-leaping-out-of-the-cake I had tried to arrange for Mom’s birthday. So we’ll just have a Margarita and toast my clever nephew and birthday mother.
