I also thought Gore was really good–but I had glimpses of his awkwardness. For example, when his film won, he was hugging everyone on stage with his back to the camera, while one of the team members was giving the thank you speech. It was so obviously not instinctive to him to face the camera. So I think he should play on that–that he isn’t “slick”. Maybe the campaign will call me to consult.

Also I agree about the short good speech. His last line, “We have everything we need to get started, we just need the will” was very persuasive.

I did watch Gore’s announcement segment and it was great. Actually there were two, the second one less prominent. This is the first time I watched quite a bit of the program because I had seen many of the movies–not the one picked for best picture though but I might rent it some day.

DId anyone see Al Gore at the Oscars? it was the only part iw atched because they’re so boring, but I thought Gore was great. I didn’t see his funny “announcement” thing but everyone seemed to think it was funny, and his speech about willpower being a renewable resource was short and well written (i thought.)

I have had glasses explode in the dishwasher. I think it happened twice with the same glasses. Dar said it was a defect in the glasses. I don’t know why your stew exploded though. I would write to the company that made the cover.

  • Evan's comment on February 19, 2007 at 10:22 pm

Well the beauty of it is that he’d be appointed, so he wouldn’t have to run. Also, people are saying Bill would be too restless to be sitting around in the White House, especially because he’s a better politician than Hillary and would always be second guessing her.

p.s what on earth happened with the pot lid? I’d like to hear a scientific explanation from someone.

  • Mom's comment on February 19, 2007 at 7:18 pm

I think it’s one reason to vote for Hillary — the rest of the world loved Bill Clinton and we’d be getting two for the price of one. I can’t imagine Bill every running for senate though. Besides, the president needs a helper to always be there supporting him or her and looking on with admiration on TV. Also the helper should do projects that benefit children or contribute to the arts.

I was making stew yesterday and it was nearly finished. It was simmering on low. I took the glass lid off the pot and took a piece of meat out to taste it and put the lid on the pot. As I was standing over the sink eating the meat with my back turned, BAM!!!!! The lid exploded! It shattered into pieces, some of which went into the stew and some went out into the air about a foot. We have no idea why this happened. We were really hungry and looking forward to the stew! Why do bad things happen to good people?

I love how people keep thinking up ideas to bring Bill back to politics. I think Dad was advocating a V.P. Clinton ticket.
This idea sounds the most plausible to me:

    http://www.examiner.com/a-573127~Some_mull_idea_of_Sen__Bill_Clinton.html

The idea is that NY Governor Spitzer would appoint Bill to Hillary’s unexpired Senate seat if she were to win the presidency. It sounds good to me, but I doubt Bill would do it.

p.s. i’ll post about my job soon.

  • suzys's comment on January 29, 2007 at 7:44 pm

Barbaro has died today. After watching the video of him breaking his leg I don’t really want to go to any horce races again. So maybe that is Barbaro’s legacy.

  • Susan's comment on January 15, 2007 at 2:34 pm

I don’t know anything about the “Suffolk Strangler,” but that lion video is awesome.

  • Evan's comment on January 13, 2007 at 1:34 am

here’s an awesome video that’s got to be a secret wish of everyone (i know mom has told me it’s one of hers.)

there’s a news story that goes along with it, just click on the video to the right of the page.

  • Evan's comment on December 18, 2006 at 2:28 pm

well they caught the “Suffolk Strangler” as he’s been dubbed.

While it’s not entirely sure that the suspect did it, I think this little quote is rather telling:

“I know I’m innocent. But I don’t have alibis for some of the times - actually I’m not entirely sure I have tight alibis for any of the times.”

The new theme is crisper–I think that’s what it is that I like.

  • suzys's comment on December 15, 2006 at 10:58 pm

The new theme is great. Much friendlier.

  • Aunt Julie's comment on December 15, 2006 at 9:32 pm

I like the new theme, but then I’m partial to blue over green most of the time.

  • Mom's comment on December 15, 2006 at 5:51 pm

OK, now you have a choice — use the old theme or the new theme — look at the sidebar on the right.

  • Evan's comment on December 15, 2006 at 3:03 pm

To be honest, i liked the old one better. this one seems more glaring and confrontational. although maybe that’s the new direction we’re taking on the blog!

  • Gramma's comment on December 15, 2006 at 9:59 am

Where is the new comment thingie? Maybe it will show up when there is a new comment.

  • Mom's comment on December 15, 2006 at 7:36 am

I could make alternating comment background colors — I’m putting this theme back for now but will work on the other theme from time to time.

  • Marshall's comment on December 14, 2006 at 10:34 pm

I like the color scheme, but in general it’s really difficult to distinguish between different sections of the blog now. The “comment by blahblah” should be in a different font/size, and there should be some separator between peoples’ comments. Mom, I don’t know if you can do any of that. Can you make it so the background alternates from comment to comment?

Christopher Porco was sentenced to 50 years to life yesterday.

  • Gramma's comment on December 13, 2006 at 7:49 am

Thanks Jenny. I don’t have a date either except with some women. I have a Christmas party today.

  • suzys's comment on December 13, 2006 at 7:22 am

I do not have a date, as of today.

  • suzys's comment on December 12, 2006 at 10:19 pm

    Good job Jenny!

  • Mom's comment on December 12, 2006 at 10:15 pm

ok, I upgraded the site today so we have the latest version of WordPress, and I did the same for Gramma’s blog. Then I changed the comment order, which is what I have to do every time and every time forget how to do it, since most blogs don’t have latest comments first. Also every time I upgrade the smart unread comments plugin gets older — it’s amazing that this is not a very popular plugin that nobody is keeping up. THat’s my big breaking news!

  • Mom's comment on December 12, 2006 at 9:32 pm

    date check
