Marshall,

If the recipe is for a 16 oz. can of pumpkin, but you have a 29 oz. can, how do you increase the recipe? I know you make a ratio and then multiply everything or something like that.

Love,

Auntie Sue

More on Tom Cruise, Scientology by Susan on November 21, 2006 at 3:57 pm

I read that Tom Cruise’s best man and “best friend” is David Miscavige, the current de facto head of Scientology. If I remember correctly, he’s part of the evil 2nd generation of scientology that took over after Ron Hubbard. Evvie do you know more about him?

Ask Auntie Sue by Susan on at 3:20 pm

Last night I was at a bar with the Legal Department, and there was this super cute doggy there. He was small, but not tiny, mostly white but with some brown spots/ patches, I think, big floppy ears, and *huge* puppy eyes. He was really soft and cuddly, like he weighed almost nothing and he seemed sort of delicate almost. I talked to his owner and asked what kind of dog he was but I totally forget. She told me some anecdote about how these doggies are super loyal, and King Louis the Somethingth had one, and the dog stayed with the king, even after he got executed, and then the dog stayed with the King’s head! The dog was also really friendly and like climbed over all these people to jump on my lap, and it was running all around.

Does this sound familiar at all? I think the breed maybe was a King something. I want one!!!

Incredibly evil/ tonedeaf/ stupid Republican quotes by Susan on November 13, 2006 at 8:05 pm

Post them here! I’ll start it off:

“Bob Sherwood’s seat [in Pennsylvania] would have been overwhelmingly ours, if his mistress hadn’t whined about being throttled.”

- Grover Norquist. Sherwood’s girlfriend had called 911 out of fear that he was trying to strangle her (Sherwood denied it ever happened when the police report surfaced).

Mr. Crumiller goes to Washington by Susan on November 12, 2006 at 5:30 pm

Nobody’s made any dumb jokes about Congressional pages yet, or Evvie being picked for the DC program because of his looks. Hehehe.

Seriously, Ev tell us more about the GW thing. I’m guessing you want to intern for a Senator, right? Does everyone else agree with Ev’s idea that working for Bernie Sanders might not actually be that cool b/c he won’t have any power and the other Senators might ignore him?

Leahy will be Chair of the Judiciary Committee, so that’s who Arastu is angling for. But we both think that you should decide which committees are the most interesting, and then pick a senator based on that.

Battle for Equality by jenny on at 10:18 am

Our friend and State Assemblyman Reed Gusciora is leading an uphill battle for marriage equality in NJ.

From North Jersey Media Group

…The bill defines marriage as “the legally recognized union of two consenting persons in a committed relationship.” It is the first measure to surface since the state Supreme Court unanimously decided last month that gay couples are entitled to all the benefits of marriage, yet disagreed over use of the word marriage itself.

“If you want to fulfill the spirit and the decision of the Supreme Court without creating a system of separate but equal, [the law would allow] any two consulting adults who want to obtain a state marriage would get a civil marriage,” said Assemblyman Reed Gusciora, D-Mercer, who introduced the legislation.

The article goes on to say just about everyone is against it — they want to create a separate category called civil unions. It’s so frustrating because to me it’s pandering to homophobia and also reinforcing it to say this.

Saying Something Nice About President Bush by suzys on November 8, 2006 at 9:48 pm

Today, for the first time, I could see how he got elected president . He was a master politician in his press conference this afternoon. He sounded like a good sport, like a true blue believer, and he made it sound like dumping Rumsfeld was a cheerfully concocted strategy change. I know he has nothing left to lose, and I know he richly deserved the thumpin he got, but still, I have never understood his appeal–to anyone.

Also our new Speaker of the House rocks. THAT is exciting.

Sanctimonious letters to the editor by Susan on at 9:21 pm

OK, I’m hoping to start a little collection here. Mom and I really like talking about a certain type of letter to the editor: it’s basically a thinly-veiled excuse for talking about oneself and how great one is, or the sharing of a “novel” idea that the writer obviously thinks is creative and awesome, but actually is trite. One typical example is, after an article about something school-related, letter-writer (LW) will write in to talk about how school-learning today is so rote and boring - but LW’s kids play outside all the time, and “that’s where the real learning takes place.” Oh, there’s also usually a pause right before the pithy punchline which is always the last sentence/paragraph.

Midterm Midtacular! by Evan on November 7, 2006 at 7:01 pm

Ok, on Aunt Julie’s suggestion i’m creating a separate post for election results.
Here’s a headline on Raw Story: (although remember exitw polls in 2004 predicted John Kerry to be the winner.)

Unconfirmed exit polls: Dem Senate leads in VA,
RI, PA, OH, NJ, MT and MO all over 50%…

Saddam by Evan on November 5, 2006 at 3:48 pm

Well, the verdict is in–innocent!!

just kidding. It’s funny how no one has really been talking about whether this will affect the elections. I’ve been thinking for the past week or so that it might be huge, but now I’m thinking maybe it won’t do much. What does everybody else think?
