Julie’s candidate makes great statement on Net Neutrality by jenny on July 31, 2006 at 3:37 pm
This is from a statement by VA candidate for Senate Jim Webb sent to MyDD
The internet represents democracy in action and must be protected. More than perhaps any other medium, the internet provides an open and free marketplace of ideas and speech, as our founding fathers intended in the first amendment to our Constitution. The internet has been open and free since its inception, and it should remain open and free moving forward. Just as importantly, the blogosphere provides strong checks and balances on the corporate media and on governmental power. This is particularly crucial at at time of serious overreach by the executive branch, as we now are experiencing. Finally, there is a fundamental fairness issue at stake here. Given that the internet is increasingly indispensible to educational and career advancement in today’s economy, it is essential that we keep it accessible and affordable to all Americans - not just to the wealthiest corporations and citizens. Allowing big telecom companies to provide preferential service to large content providers over the “little guy” is both wrong and undemocratic. For all these reasons, I strongly support net neutrality.
I have a wiki set up for this issue but haven’t updated it. For anyone who wants to play with a wiki, click here. You can easily make a page about anything.

Ask Susan by Gramma on July 26, 2006 at 11:26 am
How are the bar exams going? I haven’t heard of you running up and down the aisles screaming so I assume they are doable.

Ask Marshall by suzys on July 23, 2006 at 6:19 pm
Marshall,
Congratulations on your decision to go to graduate school. I really think you should look at UW Madison. You would like it and more importantly, I would like it.
Also happy birthday tomorrow.

Mystery — someone registered crumiller.ws by jenny on July 20, 2006 at 6:55 am
The .ws extension either means Samoa or “website.” But why would anyone in the world besides us register this name? There is no information easily found about who registered it. You can try to look up who is the owner of domains in “whois” but sometimes the owner pays for a service to keep it from being listed.

The Porco Trial by jenny on July 16, 2006 at 9:13 pm
Marshall went up to Goshen, NY today to get ready to testify. We’re not going to post more about it because who knows what will happen in the media — they’re probably all flocking to this blog to find out more about Marshall. But here is a link to a news blog about it. He’s staying in hotel paid for by the state of NY for the next three days. Some of his fraternity brothers and other Rochester students will also testify. Dad and I were going to go up to give him moral support but he seems to have a lot of friends and we don’t know when he’ll testify so it seems not worth it.

My Summer Vacation by suzys on July 4, 2006 at 2:53 pm
I went to Alaska. The best part was driving down the Denali Highway, which was the most untouched wilderness I have ever been near. It was also completely wonderful to be away from my normal life. I love my life but have been in the same pattern for a long time-otherwise known as a rut.
I also bought a little house across the street from my grooming shop, to put the shop in. So as of August 15 I will be in my own building. I am happy about this but also scared, since I am basically clueless about building type things and now I have to renovate it.
Tedder’s relatives continue to do well. Dingo (Maggie’s dog) is due to have black pups on July 23. Their father is chocolate so they will be chocolate factored.
